Yeah, but you can understand why they want to iron it out. God forbid a problem come up during the playoffs.
I'm glad MLB is starting to pull their head out of their butt on this. Once they implement it on plays at home, they will have finally finished the crani-anal extraction. All it will take is for them to realize that a home run and a play at the plate are the exact same thing: if they get it wrong, it effects the score right then and there, so get it right.
Hilarious how much resistance there actually was in this thread, considering it's ONLY going to be used when the umpires have absolutely NO CLUE as to what the correct call is. Who in their right mind wants to have calls made which are complete and utter guesses? The umpires don't want it, the players don't want it, the owners don't want it, the fans don't want it.
It's pretty telling that MLB found it enough of an issue to implement it in such an expidited fashion.
Thank God they were able to see that it's really a no brainer move. Long live logic and common sense.

It took MLB more than a decade to get to this point. I am glad they are implementing it but it's obviously not a no-brainer. I wish the pro-IR crowd would stop throwing passive aggressive insults around.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Ultimately it wasn't time that caused the change to occur, it was park dimesions and the reduction of steriods. This year, exponentially more than in previous years, more balls are just barely making it out. Couple that with some odd park dimensions, and you have a need far great than it was 10 years ago or even 5 years ago.
So I think it's just more just the realization that this is probably going to occur a lot more than it has in the past. I stand by the opinion that it is a no brainer decision, given the current state of baseball.
It was good of MLB to wait until today and tomorrow so as not to implement it in the middle of a series. You wouldn't want to make a change like this in the middle of something important like a single series.
