05/18 Rockies: Holliday, Atkins to Cleveland?
Rumors are swirling that indicate the Cleveland Indians have contacted the Colorado Rockies with interest in trading for outfielder Matt Holliday , third baseman Garrett Atkins, and/or relief pitcher Brian Fuentes, according to FoxSports.com.
The bulk of the speculation revolves around three key facts. (1) Holliday is reportedly seeking a new eight-year contract in the neighborhood of $152 million. Cleveland is a team that might be able to come up with such numbers, and the Rockies are most certainly not. (2) Colorado general manager Dan O'Dowd has worked in the Cleveland organization and has close ties with the personnel for the Indians that could facilitate such discussions and keep it quiet. (3) Cleveland is in need of a strong right-handed bat, preferably to fill a spot in the corner outfield. Atkins would also work as the Indians have a need for an offensive infielder. As of today, it is speculation... but it makes a ton of sense for both teams and could prove worthy of heavy consideration.
I have bad luck when it comes to signatures that the person either gets traded or hurt...in this case I hope he gets traded.
