2 Years ago, I gave up Vernon Wells, John Lackey, Chris Capuano for Felix Hernandez and Jason Bay. Vernon broke out and his production equaled Bay's. That year Felix was 12-14 with a 4.52 ERA and 1.34 WHIP. Capuano was 11-12 with a 4.03 ERA and 1.25 WHIP (outperforming Felix) and Lackey was 13-11 with a 3.56 ERA. I know it may not seem like the worst deal ever, but I ended up losing to him in the h2h finals and the guys I dealt him were hot and Felix was shut down I believe and Bay slumped.
Field wrote:Without a doubt, dropping Johan late May or early June of 2004 when he was boasting a 5+ ERA. My primary competition that year picked him up sometime in June and Johan went on to post a second half line of: 104 IP, 129 Ks, 1.21 ERA, and a 0.75 WHIP . Probably the best run of his very accomplished career. I do think I ended up winning the league inspite of that mistake, but it was a lot closer than it should have been had I kept Santana.
this is mine as well. it was an auction keeper and i had drafted him cheaply enough where he is still a bargain for the guy to keep for at least one more season (+$5 every season to keep). He has won two championships in the past 4 seasons. I finished in 2nd right behind him in both seasons he won.
Turned down a Braun offer last year after he had just been called up. I knew he could hit and hit well, but with the Brewers playing good ball, I figured Braun's defense would hurt his playing time as the Brewers couldn't afford to have his glove at 3rd. Boy was I wrong about the playing time.
My other huge mistake was a drop of Hanley Ramirez early in 2006. Hanley was K'ing at a terrible rate and I figured the steals he would give me wasn't worth the soon to come drop in BA. The BA did drop a bit later on, but to my suprise came right back up by the end of the year.
1. Keeping Jeter after his big year in 2006 and actually encouraging my friend to draft Hanley because I figured he would help his team.
2. Trading Cole Hamels for Jermaine Dye last year. I had a great staff (Santana, Sabathia, Lackey) but Dye obviously ended up a relative disappointment despite his solid second half.
OK, not baseball, but its so dumb I had to share. 12 team dynasty football, traded what turned out to be this years #1 rookie draft pick (McFadden) and Thomas Jones for Todd Heap and Marvin Harrison.
