The "closer in waiting" is up. Doubt he'll be closing, but def worth watching.
StlToday.com wrote:The Cardinals added Memphis Redbirds closer Chris Perez to their roster today as the team seeks relief for the back end of its bullpen.
Jason Isringhausen, who Thursday suffered his sixth blown save and fifth loss of the season, was placed on the disabled list because of a hand injury.
Isringhausen reportedly suffered a laceration on his right hand when he reacted angrily after last Friday's game, when he blew a 2-0 lead with two out in the bottom of the ninth at Milwaukee. He twice delivered open-handed blows to a television set in the clubhouse after the 3-2 loss.
Perez has thrown 17.2 innings in AAA this year with 22 Ks and 9 BBs.

Most likely not in the near future. I'm sure Cards will see how he does in the setup innings first. Then they'll make a decision later after evaluating Franklin, Izzy, etc...

Yes, there is.
Some might be quick to say that he's too young, but he's easily going to have the best arm in that bullpen. Then again, Marmol is pretty damn good as well and isn't closing...
wow, yahoo continues to surprise me. perez pitched a perfect inning last night, yet he wasn't added to the database today there is a very good chance he will be the closer...he is viewed as the closer of the future. franklin will be the closer short-term but as soon as he faulters perez will get his shot.
My guess is that we'll see an article by a Yahoo writer about his arrival within the next day or 2, and he'll be added to the database shortly thereafter. That's the usual timeline with Yahoo prospect additions. Honestly, there's no use complaining about it anymore, at least this year. The good news is, Perez won't immediately close games, which may turn off owners to using a waiver priority on him.
I'm going to say that a Yahoo writer will recommend watching him, but not adding him quite yet...

Well, Marmol has a competent veteran ahead of him who's been pitching very well so far. Can't say the same for Izzy or Franklin.
Rocinante2: you know Rocinante2: its easy to dismiss the orioles as a bad team ofanrex: go on Rocinante2: i'm done Rocinante2: lmao
The sad thing about Marmol is that Wood got the nod before the season, with 0 SVs prior to this year. While Marmol really didn't have too much experience in the 9th I still believe he should have got a shot.....Especially after Woods 3 ERs first game of the year in the 9th and 2 BS in the first 5 games.
