Webb or Santana?

Like eli81k noted, in 2003 Santana went 11-2 with a 2.85 ERA, 109 Ks and only 27 walks in 110 innings as a starter (18 starts).

Webb on the other hand was 10-9 with a 2.86 ERA, 171 Ks and 67 walks in 179 innings as a starter (28 starts).

Santana was unbeaten in the final two months of the season (Webb was 3-5 in the same period of time).

Johan Santana is the guy you want on your team.

Last year Webb was better. Era+ of 165 to Santanas 151. The record means little. Webb was the 2nd unluckiest sp last year.

As I stated earlier, I would go with Santana but keep in mind that he has never started for an entire season. It's not so clear cut.

i would go with santana. its just a gut feeling but i think webb will have a hard time matching his era and strikeout rate from last year.

Gotta go with santana... he may be entering his prime, has nastier stuff to k more matters, and is so 'smooth' with rob thomas... Look for santana to be a strong candidate for the CY in the tune of...

18W, 2.75 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, 205Ks

push...I like Santana's stuff and his 1+K/IP, but Webb pitches in a weaker hitting division and he had 1+K/IP after the break...both have stellar era's and whip...just pick whoever you think is going to get the most wins this year...IMO both will get 14-16 wins, so make this decision on whether you think the D-Backs offense or the Twins offense will be better this year...just for the record, I think Santana is a slightly better pitcher, but pitching against a DH brings his stock down just enough to be pretty even with Webb. ;-D
