ST. PETERSBURG -- The red-hot Rays had another boost of good news prior to Wednesday's game against the Yankees, as the team agreed to terms on a contract extension with ace Scott Kazmir.
The contract guarantees Kazmir $28.5 million, and has a maximum value of approximately $39.5 million. The agreement is also guaranteed through 2011, with the team holding an option for the 2012 season.
The 24-year-old Kazmir has a 36-30 record and a 3.63 ERA, and he is the Rays' all-time leader in wins, strikeouts, starts and innings. He has recorded 14 games with 10 or more strikeouts and was the youngest American League strikeout champion last season (239).
Pretty smart by the Rays. They had no choice to sign him for a few years, and it is better to do it now, then to do this in October after he has had a superb year.

Yep and that option year is great as well. We have almost everyone locked up for a while

It would be nice to go ahead and lock up Upton this offseason as well.

I agree. I would also like to see them extend CC and not just pick up his last option for next season
