Rays Sign Kazmir to an Extension

Postby deerayfan072 » Wed May 14, 2008 8:38 pm

ST. PETERSBURG -- The red-hot Rays had another boost of good news prior to Wednesday's game against the Yankees, as the team agreed to terms on a contract extension with ace Scott Kazmir.

The contract guarantees Kazmir $28.5 million, and has a maximum value of approximately $39.5 million. The agreement is also guaranteed through 2011, with the team holding an option for the 2012 season.

The 24-year-old Kazmir has a 36-30 record and a 3.63 ERA, and he is the Rays' all-time leader in wins, strikeouts, starts and innings. He has recorded 14 games with 10 or more strikeouts and was the youngest American League strikeout champion last season (239).

Good deal for the Rays

Absolute steal. I guess Kaz isn't too confident about that elbow holding up. :-D

I really think his elbow made him reconsider signing an extension. He saw first hand what happened to Brian Anderson

Yea, for a 10 year old franchise that never had a true ace or a bullpen it is 36. That number will be a lot higher very soon

How the hell did Friedman pull this off?
I'm starting to think he's practicing witchcraft.
Longoria through 2016, James Shields through 2014, Cliff Floyd for 20 cents, Iwamura for pretty much nothing, trading away a giant over-rated retard for a quality pitcher, closer quality RP Dan Wheeler acquired and signed through 2011.

I think I might post Freidman's pitcure in the "Who Is Your Baseball Man Crush" thread. ;-D

To which overrated retard are we referring? I believe we have had our share in 10 years..

I'm hoping youre talking about Delmon, as pretty much everyone around here hated that trade but a couple(me included)

Correct.
He's showing how great he is with a .264 /.307/ .299 line right now. People might quote this and say "it's early" but that OBP isn't going to go up much further. :-S
