Unorthodox draft, how did i do?

Postby briz » Thu Feb 26, 2004 8:56 pm

Just got done drafting, I sorta took an unorthodox strategy. Im trying to win RUNS, SB, AVE, SV, ERA, WHIP out of these stats:

Batters: R, HR, RBI, SB, AVE
Pitchers: W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP

If my plan goes right I should win every game 6-4. I might even win on K's on ocasion for a 7-3 win.

Heres my team,

C- J. Mauer
1B- D. Ortiz
2B- P. Reese (should have some SB's)
3B- H. Blalock
SS- K. Matsui (should have some SB's)
OF- I. Suzuki (34 SB)
OF- J. Pierre (65 SB)
OF- S. Podsednik (43 SB)
Util- A. Sanchez (52 SB)
BN H. Matsui OF
BN J. Phillips C
BN E. Martinez DH
BN J. Cruz OF
BN M. Bradley OF

SP S. Chacon (RP actually, "listed as SP")
SP D. Graves (RP actually, "listed as SP")
RP E. Gagne 55 SV, 137 K, 1.20 ERA, 0.69 WHIP
RP K. Foulke 43 SV, 88 K, 2.08 ERA, 0.89 WHIP
P J. Smoltz 45 SV, 73 K, 1.12 ERA, 0.87 WHIP
P O. Dotel (first time RP)
P B. Donnelly 79 K, 1.58 ERA, 1.07 WHIP

Chacon, and Graves are RP's but they are listed as SP's. So I have all RP's in my lineup, who should dominate on Saves and have wicked low ERA and WHIP.

What do u guys think?

Well, punting four categories in a 5x5 head to head league is usually frowned upon. Although you pulled off drafting to your concept, I'd like to see whether or not it actually works. You've doomed yourself to misery in those other categories (except Ks), so it's a pretty odd strategy. But in HTH, it might work. In regular season ROTO, you'd get walked over.

Not sure if i'd follow that strategy for my seasone, but i can understand the logic. You're stacked at closers, wow. Couple questions.....pokey reese? And the second question.....Pokey Reese? Maybe try trading off Dotel for someone like luis Castillo??? He's got average and stolen bases covered for you....Dotel could be money this year too. ANd giving up one of your closers may not hurt you too much. Especially if you win in saves by like 10 every week!

you'll be trading steals by the all star break.

and if you are looking for chacon to have low ERA and WHIP....think again.

if i were you, i'd lose chacon and just go with a different starter everyday depending on matchups. if you aren't gonna have other starters, you'll be well under the league max for starts.
