Fire Sales, They SUCK. Agreed?

I’ve got a money league, same one for 8 years. Mostly good friends but sometimes we add a few stragglers. This year, the last place team decides to post a message about his, “Florida Marlins style Fire Sale.” He’s moving next month, he says, and won’t be able to manage so he wants to shake things up. Big pile of steamed crap, right?

So what’s our commissioner do… lock him out? Nope. He sends Ellsbury, Maine and Mike Jacobs to him for Teixceira and Chin Meng Wang.

Can I get some thoughts on this please because I’m about to lead a revolt. How bad is that trade?

If it's need based, that's not even a terrible trade in the first place. I like Maine more than Wang and if you need steals Ellsbury is a good guy to have and he's getting some of the power back in Jacobs. That's not what I'd call a fire sale. A fire sale is when you trade Tex and Wang for three AA prospects.

But, I agree fire sales do suck and I am always pro-early deadline. But like I said that's not a fire sale.

Without the story, that trade doesn't even seem that unfair to me. I would certainly love to be on the tex/wang side, but I can see value on both sides. Still, that is bogus and a guy like that deserves to be locked out and never invited back.
