Down the road, one possible move that might make some sense (and to be clear, this is pure speculation): If Colorado eventually turns the page on 2008, the Indians and the Rockies could match up well in a deal built around Garrett Atkins. The Rockies have a third baseman waiting in the wings, in Ian Stewart -- although he is not faring well so far -- and the Indians, as they look for ways to improve their offense, are flexible at first and third base.
If any of you guys are Indians fans, Bruce Drennan (dude is an idiot yet I end up listening to him out of boredom on gamedays) is yacking about Buster Olney talking about this rumored possibility of a trade, and the only thing I can see that Olney has said, is that at some point down the line, if the Rox are out of contention, they could move Atkins. None of this is news to me at all. It's been said before, the fact that they haven't renewed his contract or negotiated toward an extension, and they have Ian Stewart sitting in AAA.
Yet somewhere Drennan is getting that Olney says Josh Barfield and Aaron Laffey for Atkins.
Granted, I'm posting mostly out of excitement. Although Olneys blog is dated May 7th, today is the first I've heard of it. And I gotta say, it would be great to get Atkins here, but does anyone think this is awfully far fetched? It just doesn't sound like Shapiro to deal a major league ready pitcher. They traded Kouz for Barfield, who's out in SD playing 3B...they've got Cabrera who will be the SS soon enough, and at 2B Barfield would plug in, hopefully as a leadoff hitter, letting Sizemore hit 2 or 3. Peralta is a decent SS, losing range tho.
Anyone hear this? Opinions? Whatever?
Just trying to get some more info, other indians fans opinions. anyone for that matter.
