Brewers remove Gagne from closer's role

The Brewers have removed Eric Gagne from the closer's role for now, though manager Ned Yost didn't name a replacement.

Guillermo Mota looks like the favorite for saves for us, but Salomon Torres is also worth grabbing in NL-only leagues. Gagne is expected to get a chance to win back the job if he turns it around. "He probably needs a little bit of a mental break," Yost said. "He's really pushing himself really hard and taking it really, really hard. We'll probably just mix and match." May. 11 - 12:53 pm et

He will be back in with 10 days. None of those guys are going to do the trick and this is just a response to him saying he doesn't deserve the 9th right now. He clearly needs a break. I am a Gagne owner, and I am happy.

Hmmm, I wonder what Billy Beane could get from the Brewers for H. Street.

Between Harden, Sheets, and Street, the Brewers would have half the Simulated Game All-Star team.

I can understand being gullible enough to bite on my own optimism and gambling a late mid-round pick on Gagne, but how does a MLB GM get away with commiting the cash and roster spot on him when the free preview of him in Boston revealed just what we see now. No roids = no fastball, no fastball = no out pitch.

It will be a shame should the Brewers fail to make the play-offs because the GM bit on this cow and their 1B won't bite on any cow.

i don't get why gagne wasn't on everyone's exclude list. he's been horrible since the trade to boston last season and the most obvious signs were this spring when he couldn't throw a decent pitch. while i'd gotten him if he fell a lot, in every draft closers went way earlier than should've and i never even considered taking gagne.
