How to break a tie - 5x5 Roto

I am hoping fellow Commissioners can help provide me with ideas to break a tie in the final standings of our 5x5 12 team Roto league.

In our Keeper league we created rookie draft pick incentives to those teams would battled all year long and did not simply rebuild their keepers and stop trying to compete. The one thing I overlooked with this system was hoe to break a tie. In our previous 6 years it has happened quite a bit especially the lower teams – so I need to find a way to break ties and get it implemented right away.

the team that is ahead of the other tied team in the most categories finishes ahead .. that is the standard tiebreaker according to the okrent/waggoner bible

This is absolutely my preferred method as well.

The other choice is to have one of the scoring categories be the tie-breaker and have the winner/leader in that win in the case of a tie. If you go this route, however, I think you need to draw a category at random since you're already mid-season.
