Eric Hinske - the next carlos pena?

i see alot of similarities in these two. a couple 6-2 225lb lefthanded journeyman sluggers who found a new home in tampa. both had one good season many years ago.

this time last year nobody was picking up pena - thinking it was a fluke. we all know how that story ended.

fast-forward to May 9, 2008. hinske is actually ahead of the pace pena set in 2007 (see below). plus he has more speed, and 1B,3B,OF eligibility. (technically, he still needs one more game to gain the 3B)

are people going to make the same mistake again? or are you picking him up?

I picked him up in a 10 team points league cause Ryan Howard has decided he excels at keeping the bench warm

Interesting comparison. But I don't think Hinske has the same ceiling physcially as Pena even though Hinske is a former ROTY. He might be worth a speculative pick-up if you are in need of a power bat in a 12+ teamer. I'd say you are really hurting if you need him in a 10 team standard league.

So you really see Hinske having 45-HR(if not 50) legitimate power?

Ahh I have Arod and Atkins and Howard.

Unfortuantely Howard is sucking, Arod is hurt. So I need Atkins at 1B

Not to ruin your speculation or anything, but common now. Someone hitting over 40 dingers doesn't come around that easily nowadays.
