The Passed Ball

edit: it appears they changed the scoring and it was not an unearned run so I guess you can disregard this post since that answers my question.

I'm trying to figure out what is the point of keeping passed ball statistics when they don't factor into a pitcher's scoring stats (do they?). I was wondering about this after seeing the first inning of today's DBacks/Phils game. Victorino was on 2nd with one out, then advanced to third on a passed ball. Utley hit a sac fly, then Howard struck out to end the inning. Webb gets charged with the earned run, which would not have scored if there was no passed ball. Why count the run against the pitcher in this case? Isn't a passed ball an error?

The idea of the unearned run is just silly in the first place. Errors are way too subjective and when a pitcher goes on to give up 10 ER after an error with 2 outs he still pitched poorly and is to blame for most of the damage done. I really wish baseball would just move to RA.
