Where does Rich Hill rank among minor leagues?

Postby Sunspot » Thu May 08, 2008 11:50 am

Rich Hill was recently dropped in my league. I am wondering, now that he is in the minor leagues, where does he rank on a list of impact call-ups? Homer Bailey, Ian Kennedy, Rich Hill, Kershaw, Price etc. (I know there are more in the top of the list)
Do we see him getting back any time soon? Lieber was pretty bad on Wed.

Sam situation in my league.

"IF" he settles down - a la last year - he will be the best one from your list.
Had a decent AAA start. If his next start is decent, I'm gonna grab him.
3 decent starts = recall IMO.

The latest ESPN rankings (based on expectation of value from now until the end of the season) that just came out yesterday had Rich Hill something like #296 overall and #59 among SP a very significant drop from their preseason projections.

I would bet that a call back up to the majors makes that number go up. Trick is to find his way out of Lou's doghouse.

To me Lou is the reason he is where he is. Goes back to the start at Pittsburgh when he told Hill that he couldn't beat Pittsburgh and decided he wouldn't start him, then last minute he tells him he will start and has a horrible game and was never the same. I think he did beat Pittsburgh the next time out but was not a great start. If your manager shows no trust then it has to mess with your mind.

Pittsburgh? Who'd a thunk it...

By comparison, a guy in my league just traded Atkins and C. Lee for A Ram and Mr. Hill. Guess he's thinking he'll get promoted from AAA ball and right the ship.

Yeah, I agree. I've never seen a manager jerk a player around this much. Especially one that he had to be hoping would be a crucial part of his team. Who knows, maybe if you had a ring side seat you'd say that Piniella gave Hill exactly what he needed. But from afar it sure looked unreasonable. And the results sure don't make Piniella look like a genius.

I had to laugh when I saw Lieber's first shot at the rotation. 4 HR's in the second inning. I wonder if Lou would have preferred to watch Hill walking guys...

But I meant to reply to the original post. Sure, keep Hill on your radar. Check out that first start when he gets back to the majors, look for signs of life. But, in the name of God, don't put him into your lineup until he does something good. He is one confused ballplayer right now, and his situation with Piniella is toxic.
