Finally, Swisher is hitting like the "real" Nick Swisher. There's absolutely no reason he still can't get to 30 HR this year (he would need 22 in about 100 team games; not that many considering he hit 35 with Oakland in 2006, and the White Sox ballpark is so good. if you look at his peripherals and LD/GB/FB ratios, they are actually baetter this year than they had been in past years, so I would venture to say that a lot of this slow start is just "luck", anyways...)
I've always liked Swisher - mostly because he's the only good baseball player to ever come from Ohio State - and I was expecting 35-40 HR this year, even with the slow start I wouldn't be surprised if he goes on a nice run and finishes with 30+
urbanbreez wrote:all that is fine and good but you're forgetting one thing. NO ONE in your league will want him right now. so drop him, ride a hot bat (cust, werth, whoever is the flavor of the week) and if you see any signs of his avg even touching .220, then you can pick him back up.
BETTER HURRY!
Exactly!
Why are you even worried about it? Drop him, no one is going to pick him up off waivers. I dropped him weeks ago and there he sits, a free agent. He's FA fodder for the forseeaable future, if you have him rostered, you're wasting a spot.[/quote]
THE FORSEEABLE FUTURE IS UPON US. Guess I've been wasting a roster spot. He's been riding my bench for about a month or longer, but didn't give up on him. Started him happily the last 2 games.
Hah. Just before his recent power surge, I traded Alex Gordon and Ryan Franklin for Nick Swisher and Brett Myers - they both look like they might be turning it around. This could be a huge steal for me.
In spite of trading Nick in one league back at the end of May, I *really* expected him to turn it around eventually, and my gut kept telling me I'd made a mistake by dealing him. He really hasn't, and I'm so thankful that I got rid of the loud sucking sound his .209 average was making on my team. (He's upped his average to a whopping .235 since. )
But what a disappointment. He's still a young guy (27, almost 28), but I'm not sure I'll ever pay much attention to him except in leagues with OPS, and even this year his OPS is stinky (.768)
