With two steals tonight, Lance Berkman now has 6. And it's May. His career high is 9.
Is there ANY reason to not consider this a fluke? I mean, with all due to respect to Lance, he ain't built for speed.
It seems safe to assume he'll get to 10 even if he settles down to his career standard, but could Berkman steal 15? 20 even? That would make him a first-round caliber roto player for sure.
I owned him last year and I got so tired of seeing him get thrown out trying to steal or stretch a single into a double or take home when he should have stopped at third. Who knows how many he'll steal? I know one thing; he thinks that he's fast.
It's not like Berkman just decided to start running more, it's a new team philosophy that came with the new manager. I think it's a bit risky having one of the best hitters in baseball, especially one who doesn't exactly have the frame for it, diving into second every few games. As a fantasy owner I'm glad to see some unexpected steals, but I'm not sure I'm comfortable with the chance of him getting hurt. That said, I find it hard to believe he keeps this up into the 2nd half. My guess - 16.

I agree, it seems a foolish risk to have your injury prone power stud trying to steal and extra base. I mean, how many bases of production will the Strohs lose for each day Berkman can't go?
