Projections for Ben Sheets

I just traded Beltre and Rauch for him and I think it was a pretty savvy move but just curious what some members think of Sheet's ability this year, hopefully he won't get injured.

I just unloaded him in my keeper league. I think he will put up good to great numbers but I doubt he will stay off the DL this year. Hopefully you don't have too many other injury risks on your team.

I like the idea behind the trade but I think I'd have gone after someone with a bit less injury risk. Volquez is going to collapse into relative obscurity pretty soon and Burrell is nothing special, just a hot April so good job selling both high. I just would have liked to see a bit less risk on your side of things.

Sheets is a v.good 3rd maybe borderline 2nd pitcher in fantasy. His 2004 season was a fluke (he simply isn't that good) and last years numbers which incidentally are very close to his career numbers are what you are likely to get again this season. Of course you get that along with the expectation of him pitching no more than 20-22 games.

It is his contract year, which hopefully will light a fire under him...As an optimist, I say he makes 29 starts this year.

I agree 100%. It's not the fact that I traded away Volq and Burrell that bothers me and it's not that I doubt Sheet's ability to be a top level pitcher... it's the injury factor. I should have tried for a top pitcher with less injury risk but I was going to sell Vol and Pat and take a risk. Don't fear the risk just don't trade into more risk.
