Delmon Young

Postby Vandelay-Ind » Mon May 05, 2008 11:51 am

Is this guy just not as good as the hype that he brought? Hitting like .265 w/ zero HRs a month + in? I thought he was supposed to have a little bit of pop in his bat. I was expecting big things from him this year, made him a keeper in fact........

Anyone watch him on a regular basis? Is he just not that good?

I picked him up off waviers, and have gotten a couple of steals, but he has power and it will come it will just take time.

But the real question is how much time?

His problem is hes totaly undisciplined at the plate. It doesent take long for ML pitchers to figure out they dont have to throw a strike. Some guys can hit for avg being undisciplined (cano) fewer can hit for power and avg (guerrero).

Cinci should trade for him. Delmon and Dusty would be a great combo :-° .

He's been having better at-bats lately, working the count a bit more and drawing some walks. Once he starts getting a bit more selective he should improve his numbers. He has been hitting the ball fairly hard, but has not been driving it or getting any lift.

delmon just cant hit the ball the other way and pitchers are starting to notice that and are pounding the ball on the outside of the plate...he either swings and misses at thos pitches or fouls them off making the count 0-2 65% of the time...making it hard for him to draw walks and easier for him to make an out. its hard to watch...but on the bright side hes only 22.

Gardy's said that they aren't working on it with him and that free swingers need to learn the strike zone on their own. So, it could be awhile, as in not this year. Once he figures it out he'll be good.

that really confused me. he was a guy i wouldnt touch after his rookie year, thinking he would descend to mediocrity. but for some reason pitchers didnt simply throw outside breaking pitches to him
