Greg Smith has been dealing this season. With a 2.73 ERA, 1.06 WHIP, 2 - 1 Record, and 21 K to 11 BB in 33 IP heading into today, Smith fanned 10 Rangers, allowing just 1 earned in 6 IP today, with a no decision.
I was discussing with daullaz, the possibility of him losing his spot in the rotation due to Duchscherer and Harden. Neither of them are the paradigm of health, but what happens to Smith if/when both these guys are healthy? If he continues dealing, does he still get sent back down?
If not, what is the prognosis on him for the long-haul this season? His minor league numbers are nice, he's 25, and left-handed.
yeah i just picked him up in my league. for those dedicated A's fans, who's better, smith or eveland? maybe they're gonna end up deuling it out for the spot in the rotation?
Since Smith and Eveland have done such a great job, I think the A's will try and trade Harden or Blanton. Even if he does lose his spot temporarily, I think he will have a permanent rotation spot for most of the season.
He's not this good. I think he's been a bit lucky. He would probably have the least job security of the current 5, although Duch or Gaudin could go to the bullpen, they probably won't. Dana Eveland is quite a bit better then Smith, so with Smith's 2.73/1.06 it'll probably be a case of cash in your winnings and run. I'd say it'll come down to which pitcher they want to get/keep "stretched out" out of Smith and Diamond Dallas Braden.

I'm picky when it comes to starting pitchers and he's done enough to win my respect for now so I just snagged him in a few leagues and I'm going to ride this out and see where it goes.
Duchsherer, Harden, Gaudin are all high injury risks. Even if Smith loses his job initially, he'll most likely get it back when those guys go down again.

Yes that is right. I didn't even mention Harden in mine because I'm not expecting much. But also look out for Gio if he gets a grip on himself in the minors. Another thing to note is: besides 4 games with Boston, we haven't played against a really rockin' offense yet. See where all our SP are after June, when we have DET/NYY/ARI/PHI.
