Anyone think its worth it?

"Schmidt (shoulder surgery) threw 72 pitches in the bullpen on Friday and will throw a simulated game early next week before potentially beginning a minor league rehabilitation assignment, reports the Dodgers' official site. Joe Torre said that Schmidt threw "really" well, but there was no word on his velocity. He's looking on target for a late-May or early-June return."

"Prior (shoulder) still doesn't have a timetable to face live hitters again, the San Diego Union-Tribune reports. Prior isn't going to make his original May target date, and at this point you have to be pretty pessimistic that he'll come back in any useable form."

"Schilling (shoulder, 60-day DL) said that his rehab program is going so well, that he may begin a throwing program in a week to 10 days, the Boston Herald reports. A best-case scenario has Schilling returning by mid-season"

Definite NO on Prior and Schmidt. Schilling is iffy but he could be somewhat useful if he returns midseason.

How about Kelvim Escobar? I hear he's progressing.

From Rotowire:
"Escobar (torn labrum) was transferred to the 60-day DL on Thursday. He isn't close to returning to game action. Escobar has resumed a throwing program but should miss at least several more weeks."

From Stats:
"Ecobar was originally placed on the 15-day DL, retroactive to March 21, with a tear in his pitching shoulder. He has been throwing, but if he experiences any pain, he'll likely have surgery according to the Angels' official Web site."

Looks like a dangerous pickup at best. How about Pedro Martinez? He should be back by the end of May.

Pedro could be back in a couple of weeks.

Newsday reports that Mets SP Pedro Martinez could start throwing off a mound in 10-14 days and be back with the Mets in three weeks. "He's progressing well," assistant GM John Ricco said. "He's ahead of where we thought he'd be."

Fantasy Analysis
Well, it's good to get even a rough schedule for Pedro's return, because we heard everything from 4-8 weeks when he was initially hurt. Martinez is at a fragile stage in his career and the Mets know pushing him could result in further damage, so it's probably going to be somewhere around May 20 when he finally does return. Keep him reserved until further notice. Martinez is still a decent Fantasy option in most formats when healthy because he plays for one of the best teams in baseball.

I suppose it depends on your league's DL rules. I would not trust Pedro immediately when he returns. At this point in his career, he is a five-inning pitcher at best.
