Minneapolis, MN -- (Sports Network) - Minnesota Twins center fielder Carlos Gomez left Friday's game against the Detroit Tigers after being hit in the helmet on an attempted steal in the fifth inning.
Gomez, who led off the frame with a single, was attempting his second steal of the game when Detroit catcher Ivan Rodriguez's throw caromed off the ear flap of his helmet on a head-first slide into second base.
After laying on the ground for several minutes, the speedy youngster got to his feet and was carted off the field.
He was safe on the play, his 13th stolen base of the season.
Ouch, off the ear flap....at least he was conscious and mobile afterwards.
