Gomez just got hit in the head with a ball thrown by Pudge when he was sliding into second trying to steal. They just brought the stretcher out for him... Hope he's ok. :-o

Minneapolis, MN -- (Sports Network) - Minnesota Twins center fielder Carlos Gomez left Friday's game against the Detroit Tigers after being hit in the helmet on an attempted steal in the fifth inning.

Gomez, who led off the frame with a single, was attempting his second steal of the game when Detroit catcher Ivan Rodriguez's throw caromed off the ear flap of his helmet on a head-first slide into second base.

After laying on the ground for several minutes, the speedy youngster got to his feet and was carted off the field.

He was safe on the play, his 13th stolen base of the season.

Ouch, off the ear flap....at least he was conscious and mobile afterwards.

Good thing Pudge lost that 20 lbs. of steroid induced muscle two years ago or he might have killed the guy.
Gomez has been on my bench all season and of course I'm near the bottom in SBs. Was planning to bench Swisher for him next week (I know, what the hell was I waiting for?) but it looks like see if he plays Sunday first. I'm guessing he'll sit tomorrow regardless of his situation.

13 steals and he's starting to make things happen at the plate. Has his average back over .270.

If gomez keeps finding ways to get on base he'll be a jose Reyes type player in the league. Very exciting for Twins fans to watch. He's a bit raw but I expect him to be a sleeper pick for next year's fantasy baseball leagues.

From a fantasy perspective, not nearly as good a player. Less power and fewer RBI and Run totals. That said, he obviously has Jose Reyes speed and could steal 60+

I've also been impressed by his resiliency. He is definitely a gamer who plays through minor aches and pains, something Howie Kendricks should learn ...

He was a sleeper pick this year.If he steals 50 -60 bases this year with a decent ave.,he'll be on everyones OF to grab list next year.He should also be gaining more power as he matures.
