I'm sure that minor league minds have heard of Hughes, but this Twins prospect is going bonkers so far this season! He's in Double-A New Britain, and has gone .375/.445/.731 so far this year with nine homers (Eastern League leader) and four stolen bases. To top it off, he's sporting a 1.176 OPS.
I love this guy! He's got a decent track record prior to this year, and should move to triple-A if he can keep up something close to this pace. Apparently, he's pretty good.
The best news? He's a second-baseman.
Any other Double-A/New Triple-A prospects to watch?

Actually he's been just avg up until this season....he'll be 24 in 3 months and is in AA ball....so he's a couple years older than you would like to see if he was a top notch prospect. He's a .263 hitter with a .704 OPS for his career before this year. If he keeps up the pace he should see AAA in a month or so and we'll see how he does there. Anyway, I'm not as excited as you are, but props to the kid for starting the year off with a bang.
I see what you're saying, but he - in 315 AA at-bats last year - went .283/.356/.438 with nine home runs and four stolen bases. He seems to have gotten acclimated to his surroundings and is tearing it up.
You are right about the age factor (except that he won't be 24 till August... 23 right now!), but the good news is that there isn't much in the way of a quick rise to the major leagues. Alexi Casilla, Matt Tolbert and Brendan Harris aren't all that great.
This guy could definitely fizzle out, but his bat and fielding are good enough where an organization like Minnesota would give him a good, long look. There's ZERO pop in that middle infield, aside from Hughes (potentially).
I can't wait till he gets the call to Triple-A.
