May 3 RHP Phil Hughes won't have a chance to pitch again until at least July due to a fractured rib, but when he does, he will sport glasses. After encountering problems seeing the catcher's signals on repeated occasions, Hughes had his eyes checked and was found to be nearsighted. He dismissed the idea of contacts, saying he's had issues with irritation in the past. Hughes grinned when told the story sparked thoughts of the movie "Major League" when rookie Rick Vaughn was about to be sent to the minors before his manager realized he needed glasses. "Wild Thing -- with the big skull in the middle," Hughes said, referring to the character's nickname and choice of eyewear.

Oblique strain, broken rib, bad eyesight... anyone think he has a chance to be unsucky after his time in the shop? These all sound like things that would have contributed to his poor start...
