Jeff Clement and Wladimir Balentien were absent from the lineup Tuesday night at Triple-A, leading to speculation that they're headed to Seattle.
That's kind of weird cause I don't see how both will get regular AB unless someone goes on the DL.
Clement at DH with some time at C and Balentien I think would play RF over Wilkerson who is struggling, also get some time at DH and possibly Wilkerson would play some 1b spelling the also struggling Sexson. If they want to shake things up because guys are struggling there are plenty of AB to go around in replacing WIlkerson, Sexson, Johjima and Vidro.

That's the smart move but then again this is the Mariners. They just seemed so set on Vidro and signed Wilkerson for $3 million in January so it seems kind of early to bench him.

It's just another example of how poorly the Mariners are being run. Clement and Balentien only needed to stay in the minors for another week to guarantee that they wouldn't be eligible for free agency until after 2013. Wilkerson gets the heave ho despite going 3-for-3 with a walk last night. Obviously, the team made the decision before then, as both Clement and Balentien were held out of Tacoma's lineup last night. While Wilkerson is disappearing, Jose Vidro figures to stick as a backup. Still, his fantasy value disappaears. Vidro to Clement at DH appears to be a clear upgrade. The streaky Balentien isn't as much of a lock to be an asset as the right fielder.
i don't think he's worth a pick up in mixed leagues yet. i doubt he gets enough playing time out of the gate. he may spell johjima occasionally but I can't see him taking over at catcher. my guess is he plays 2-3 times per week between C and DH. Until he gets C eligibility and until he shows he can hit I don't think he's much of an option in mixed leagues.
If he can't take the lion's share of at-bats from Vidro at DH then he doesn't deserve to get picked up. My only concern is how long it takes him to get C eligibility--in 3 weeks, he could be a guy who will hit at a .275-18 HR-75 RBI pace w/ 5 starts a week (1 at C, 4 at DH).
I saw the manager in the pre game this is what he said when questioned about both pickups.Balentien is playing everyday while clement will get alot of at bats as DH & will catch at least once a week.He said they are here to play.
