Scherzer or Kershaw?

If you had the #1 waiver wire, who would you use it on? Scherzer could be a nice help for the entire season...who knows when Kershaw will be up.

It makes it more difficult b/c no word on Max being in the rotation yet...

I would suggest waiting on Kershaw, but that may be until Sept. He's LHP pitcher with nasty stuff who will be in a pitchers park - nice combo. Scherzer is quite a talent, but from what I've read he has struggled with control up until this year, but his stuff was so dominating that he could compensate for the periods of wildness. His deliver has also raised durability questions given the strain it puts on his arm/elbow. Also, he'll be used in a Joba fashion as long as the AZ rotation stays healthy, plus D.Davis is supposedly coming back to complicate matters. If you can afford to wait, those are the reasons I'd hold off. If not, grab him and at worst he'll be great trade bait. My 2 cents.

Kershaw may only be up for a few weeks and even then may not be in the rotation, Scherzer got called up not because of injuries, but because he had 38 k's in 23 innings. He has always been dominant in the minor leauges, except for a stint last year when he seemed to have an injury, but besides that he has been untouchable and has put up some ridiculous numbers. Take the guy who is in the league now, if you want Kershaw later you can trade for him, but i wouldnt hold my waiver for a guy that i dont think will be up in the near future. Scherzer will be in the rotation for sure as soon as an injury occurs to one of the SP, Kershaw could be, but that is not for certain.

PS-if this is a keeper league, maybe wait on kershaw, long term he is the best prospect of the year by far in my mind.

Simple answer for everyone: just go and get both. Unless you're in a super shallow league or need active players in a H2H league there must be a few players on your roster worth dropping for them.

It's not a matter of just dropping someone to go after one of these guys...it's a matter of using a top waiver priority.

Tough question and I'm in the same boat with #1 waiver priority. If Mad Max was being called up for the rotation, I would say burn the waiver on him. But I don't see a lot of value in a MR situation unless the expectation is he'll soon move to the rotation. Plus, because he's being called up for the bullpen, it might reduce interest in him to the point where you might -- just might -- be able to grab him after he goes through waivers. I really don't know what I'm gonna do. He's not on yahoo yet.
