over/under on Bailey's call up

Postby kingmike74 » Fri Apr 25, 2008 1:39 pm

Homer Bailey will be up sooner rather than later. After seeing Arroyo and Fogg strut there stuff, I think it is a matter of time.

How far away do you think he is and once here, what to expect?

Being from southern Ohio, I remember now why I became a Braves fan. After seeing the Reds SP performance today, there is no reason on Gods green earth why Bailey should not be called up right now.

Arroyo has looked good two outings in a wor (7+ IP in each) but with Belise's performance today...Bailey should be called up when they need a 5th starter. I think that that is sometime late next week.

EDIE: Misread an ESPN stat. Arroyo has only had 2 7+IP outings but I think that will change.

Homer Bailey is a nice name and one to watch, but he's had some chances now and I wouldn't be jumping all over him. There's no guarantee he ever reaches frontline status as a major league starter and must surely be time for owners to be getting slightly concerned.

Not saying he's a bust, a long way to go yet, but he has taken some steps in that direction.

From what I understand he had some nagging injury problems last season. If those are sorted out, he should look a bit better. He is off to a pretty decent start in AAA, though his last two outings haven't been great. An encouraging sign is his K to BB ratio: 40 K's, 14 BB's in 50 IP. In his 9 starts last year he had as many BB's as K's, never a good sign. I'm not saying that he'll dominate, but I think that when he's called up he will be more effective than he was last season.

True, Arroyo's performance isn't great news for Bailey. But I'm not sure anyone was really expecting Bailey to replace Arroyo. Belisle got romped again today, giving up 5 ER over 5 IP, falling to 1-3 with a 7.45 ERA. I can't see someone staying in a rotation with those numbers.

Here's Bailey's stats so far:
Code: Select all
Date     OPP    W   L   ERA   SV   IP    H   ER  BB  SO
Apr 03   @SYR   0   1   1.29   0   7.0   5   1   1    2
Apr 08   @SWB   1   0   0.00   0   5.2   4   0   1    7
Apr 14   PAW    1   0   2.84   0   6.1   5   2   1    4
Apr 19   @TOL   1   0   0.00   0   7.1   5   0   1    3
Apr 25   @IND   0   1   6.00   0   6.0   6   4   3    6
Apr 30   TOL    1   0   3.86   0   7.0   5   3   2   10
May 05   @NOR   0   1   5.14   0   7.0   7   4   3    7
May 10   RIC    0   0  12.46   0   4.1   11  6   2    1

Something wrong with him? With him pitching like this, I think the Reds might be stuck with Belise for awhile.
