Rafael Soriano To Be Activated?

Postby stickkeys108 » Fri Apr 25, 2008 1:12 pm

From fanball.com

"Braves: James sent down
The News
Chuck James has been sent down to Triple-A Richmond, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Tom Glavine will be activated from the DL and start on Tuesday. The team also wants to add a fresh arm for their bullpen, and will make the announcement today.

Our View
James was 2-1 as a spot starter while filling in for Glavine, but he held a poor 7.62 ERA and a 1.62 WHIP. He holds no fantasy value following the move."

Would this "fresh arm in the bullpen" be Rafael Soriano, who was set to be activated this past Tuesday?

I highly doubt it... Soriano will not begin stimulated pitching until this weekend. They want to move very slow on him b/c of the lack of depth in the bullpen; especially in the Closer position.

I think someone will be called up from AAA and glavine will man the mound at the 3rd or 4th spot.

I have Soriano in a couple of Fantasy leagues and am keeping a close eye on him. But as of right now, he is benched on the DL.

I doubt Soriano would be categorized as a fresh arm for the bullpen. They wouldn't be that vague.

I just read a day or 2 ago he still had pain in his last throwing session. I think it will be at least a week, and most likely a lot longer before he comes of the DL if he's still having pain in throwing sessions.

"Soriano, who is currently on the disabled list with a sore right elbow, said that he plans to throw a bullpen session on Saturday or Sunday. If all goes well, the 28-year-old right-hander is hoping to be activated early next week." ;-D

Apr 26 Soriano (elbow) says he'll be ready for the Braves' two-game series at Washington that starts Tuesday, even though he hasn't thrown a bullpen session since April 6, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. He has been throwing off flat ground in recent days.

Recommendation: A return on Tuesday sounds overly optimistic, but the Braves do say he won't need a minor league rehab assignment before he returns. We'd like to see him throw off a mound again before we're confident he'll be back.
