Salty call up....

Postby casem2k2 » Thu Apr 24, 2008 10:56 pm

Apr 24 Saltalamacchia may be called up from Triple-A after Adam Melhuse suffered a bruised hand, the Rangers' official site reports.
Recommendation: Saltalamacchia has a .291/.391/.491 line in 55 at-bats with Triple-A Oklahoma to go with two home runs and three triples. However, Gerald Laird should remain the Rangers' primary catcher even if Salty gets the call.

on yahoo sports from rotowire

Is he worth picking up?

Depends, whos your current catcher?

If your current catcher is doing well, I wouldn't pick Salty up since he will prolly platoon with Laird or primarily serve as his backup.

Agreed. It completely depends who you currently have at C.

I have Mauer, and as intrgiued as I am with Salty, it's tough to justify dropping anyone else to carry what may end up being a rare part time player.

I think Salt will play alot.

The Rangers suck. They have the leagues highest ERA and have scored few runs. I would argue that Laird is not handling the pitching staff well.

Today they had Jason Botts and his .138 average DHing. Batting 8th was 1B Broussard and his scorching .161 average.

The Rangers apparently will have discussions about the direction of the team this weekend, and I would expect Salt will get called up and be given a long look - wherever he ends up playing.

I dropped Hernandez, and would drop any of the fringe catchers, for Saltalamacchia because with the direction the team is headed(nowhere)and with Laird(C) and Broussard(1B) ahead of him, Salty should have no problem overtaking these guys.

Yea , I think Salty has to be added in every league right now. IF he doesn't get AB's at catcher , he'll get AB's at first base..
You guys can't ignore Salty's power potential

much to my surprise salts is getting the call , which goes against everything the team had been saying. but the way theyve played the past few weeks i think all bets are off and anything goes.

however.... i don't expect salty to get much time at first. the team has said that his value is at catcher and his future will be there. only way i see him playing first is if the team trades or releases botts or broussard. again though, theres no telling what they will do at this point
