I'm responsible, and I knew about him, and I hung onto my waiver priority.... and for some reason I did have a bad player on my squad this far into the season

I'm really surprised, I got him at #9 (out of 12). Not an inactive league (7 out of 12 owners did an add/drop in the last week). I almost didn't put in a claim, because it seemed pointless. Nice little bonus at the start of the day.

Otoh, I dropped Liriano. Makes me wanna cry. :~(

Of course he is getting lit up. He will be pulled from the rotation when Doug Davis gets back. #1 waiver = ouch

Pssst ... don't tell anyone, but if the guy who "wasted" his No. 1 waiver on Scherzer drops him after this start ... pick him up.

Look at it this way.... that makes 8.1 innings, 12k, 2 ER, and a WHIP in the 1ish range. Ill take that all season. :)

Of course, I do recommend dropping him as stated above :)
If you found my advice helpful, please help me

Its nice validation for my skepticism, because I was in an overwhelming minority in saying that Mad Max should not be started today (or for a while), and that the hype train was going off the tracks today.

4IP, 96 pitches, 9 base runners, 5 r (2 earned).

Everyone will cling to the error and the 5 Ks, but thats fine, you can have him B-)

Hype machine definately running off the tracks but doesn't it for every young hotshot? The Max Scherzers of the world are the guys you have to speculate on. A few will dominate right away (Liriano in 2006), a few will implode right away (Homer Bailey in 2007), and most will ride roller-coaster seasons alternating between dominating starts and disasters.

Brad Evans made the best comment about this on the Yahoo! home page. He said that this start was utterly the same as a start made on May 6th of last season.........against the very same team.......with the very same results.

That was Tim Lincecum's first start and he got shelled by the PHILLIES.

Philly is a tough team for Scherzer to be making his first start against. Especially with Utley and Howard playing the way they are......

Did anybody see the game? Wonder if it was because he was excited in his first start or if he got rattled by the Drew error? Of course, facing the Phillies didn't help matters any.
