It would be tough to have him take on a key role in getting them to the playoffs then having to shut him down just before the playoffs b/c they don't want a Prior-like flameout by one of their best young arms.

Smoltz? Are you kidding me?

Wow, the clamor over this kid is RIDICULOUS! I'm pretty plugged into the fantasy world and I hadn't heard much to this tune, and then BOOM!

It's laughable really :-D

I think that he has earned some "clamor". I certainly wouldn't go drop Smoltz right away. Smoltz is worrying me though with this injury and his recent talks of going back to relief status. He sounds pretty beat down. As for boy wonder, he had 131 K's in 106 innings last year in the minors. I would say that is something to be excited about. It's not like he came from nowhere, he was a #1 pick in 06' and pitched pretty well last year. This guy could have a future in the bigs, but nothing is certain. A guy like this obviously has more value in dynasty auction leagues. He probably won't be winning the Cy Young his rookie year.

Even if Smoltz does return as a closer, he'd be one of the top closers in the league and shouldn't be dropped.

Per Rotoworld:

Max Scherzer will start over Edgar Gonzalez for the Diamondbacks on Monday.

Scherzer will take the mound against the Phillies after striking out seven in 4 1/3 innings of relief on Tuesday night. He should be owned in all NL-only leagues and mixed leaguers should strongly consider taking a flier on him. Apr. 30 - 3:43 pm et

News: The Arizona Republic reports that newly called-up Diamondbacks P Max Scherzer will get his first major league start on Monday vs. Philadelphia. Scherzer, the team's No. 1 pick in the 2006 draft (11th overall) out of the University of Missouri, will start while RHP Edgar Gonzalez goes to the bullpen. "I'm going out there to do my very best," said Scherzer. "I will have to have command of my off-speed pitches."

Bringing up Braun every time someone doesn't believe in a rookie is ludicrous--Braun is far more the exception than the rule.
