Iannetta?

Postby Moose on the loose » Fri Apr 18, 2008 8:58 pm

He did not live up to his high expectations last year. He's starting for a second straight night and making the most of his limited playing time. Any thoughts on him regaining the starting C role?

He actually didn't start last night. But I'm definitely keeping an eye on the situation, and will pounce on CI if I notice he's getting more PT.

I stand corrected... he did get a pinch hit though.

I'd love to see Chris get the starts when Francis, Cook, and Redman are pitching, and Torrealba behind the dish for the two young Latin pitchers U-Ball and Morales. If Iannetta continues to hit as well as he is now, I think he'll get more playing time and (hopefully) take over the starting job sometime this season.

Iannetta back in the lineup tonight! ;-D It might just be to give Yorvit another day off after the 22 inning game, but it just gives Chris another chance to prove he should be the starter.

I am hurting at Catcher, Deep 14 team league, and we start 2 catchers weekly.

I have Posada and Towles as my tandem. Obviously need to find a replacement for Posada, got Bako (hot streak not going to last) last weekend, in the blind auction for $1, This weekend, I was going after Clement. but struckout by being out bid, over $12. He went for $13 OUCH!!! So my other claim this week was none other then Iannetta for $1. Noticed he has started playing more often. Could this be a blessing in disguise?

Any other Iannetta believers out there?

From Rotowire, May 5:
Update: Manager Clint Hurdle hinted on Sunday that Iannetta could be in for expanded playing time, the Denver Post reports.

Recommendation: Iannetta has started 10 games and Yorvit Torrealba 21. However, Iannetta is hitting .308 to Torrealba’s .238. “Iannetta has done a good job with the at-bats he’s had. He’s been very productive,” said Hurdle. Iannetta isn’t likely to take over as the clear starter anytime soon, but a 50-50 time share is possible.

Starting for the second straight day Monday, he went 3-for-4. In two-catcher leagues it seems you could do worse. And everyone else might consider a watch on him, in case that time share swings to his favor up the road.

Rumor has it that he will be getting more playing time. Not sure how much more that will entail though. Yorkit has been struggling all season offensively and the only reason I believe they are allowing him to start more is because of his defense and play calling ability.

Personally I think they should go with Iannetta full time...he is their future and they need to get him into more games to get him experience.
