I've been watching this kid for a little bit now. Seems to just keep hitting. Does anyone know anything about him? Was he/is he a highly rated prospect? If he keeps this up he can be a serviceable 2 bagger.
Yeah he was a top prospect, in 2003 BA ranked him 38th and in 2004 was 70th. It seems like he has been around for a while now but he is still only 24. He has a good mix of pop/speed that I could see him range from 15-20 in both hr and sb. Now that he is back in the 2 spot that really helps out his production, I can see 80-90 in r/rbi. People will probably make note that he has been a 1st half hitter and done poorly in the 2nd. Which is true to an extent, his first full year I'll give him a break as it was his first full year and surely pitchers adjusted (though he still hit for avg). Last year was the same situation, but Lopez's brother died around the all-star break and for such a young kid to go through that I'm not surprised his play suffered. All and all he makes a pretty nice 2b option that will help a bit in each category and wont hurt you in any.
Lopez is an acceptable MI but if you can find someone willing to trade you a solid 12th round or earlier type player for him pull the string. He doesn't have much power, he isnt' very fast and he won't hit for a great average, his value is almost completely derived by driving in Suzuki in the 2 hole. A prolonged slump takes him from an ok player to a useless one as Betancourt slides into the 2 hole.

I'm in the same situation as you. Polanco is killing me and was thinking about picking up Lopez. hmmm, don't have the roster space though.
