What position to draft first

Postby jtylerjt » Mon Feb 23, 2004 10:41 pm

New to Fantasy Baseball but not new to Fantasy Games.

I've played Fantasy Football for a few years and each year I always pick Running Backs first because they are rare to come by.

Now for Baseball...do most of you pick certain position players first, second and so on or do you go by which players dominated in what categories?

Appreciate all your help

Depending on what scoring categories you will use or what points will be given to them is a big factor.

If you have 1st pick you can go wrong with A-Rod or Pujols.

I don't go in looking for a certain position but I do like to get an outfielder and a middle infielder with my first two picks. Who and what order depends on who's there.

I am assuming you have played fantasy Football where running backs go early. Baseball is not like that. You need to draft the best available player. Posistion scarcity does play a factor but i dont like to look at it till after the first few rounds.

There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.

position scarcity comes into factor for some players. To compare it to football, you look at RB's where there are 31 teams with a feature back - giving you 31 possible feature backs. Take 30 baseball teams with 3 OF's that's 90 outfielders - so you've gotta be a big time stud (like Pujols, Vlad, Bonds, Beltran) to go first round for me. I like going after stud Infielders like Helton, Soriano first round if I can help it. If I draft #1, I gotta take A-rod.
