Does anyone know the status of Byung-Hyun Kim? Is he moving into the starting rotation, is he still closing, or is he losing his job to Mantei and becoming a middle reliever?
true....but as they say. " even the best laid plans........"
dont be surprised to see kim all over the place this season. starting, middle relief, setup, closer. id say he will see time at all, but hes so good hes worth keeping in the lineup no matter where he goes.
He is going to try to be a starter, he wants to start and Brenly wants him to start. If he has the endurance and right mind set he should do pretty well. The question is, will mantei's arm hold up? who knows. By the way, even though it was the first start Kim let up 3 ER in 2 ip against the White Sox yesterday. That may mean nothing, but just an FYI
He had a rough first outing. He said he was nervous and it felt like he was a rookie all over again. I expect he will settle down and be a decent 4th or 5th starter, but if he continues to struggle, it's back to the bullpen, but not as the closer.
Last year I suggested people give Lowe a shot when many others claimed he should stay on the waiver wire. I'm not going to tout Kim. I think he gets torched as a starter. He is worth a gamble though using the same logic I used last year. He hasn't failed yet, so he is worth a gamble over a proven mediocre player. Kim can be unhittable and get lots of K's, so I wouldn't be shocked if he did what Lowe did or better. IMO he fails as a SP, but I could be very wrong.

I doubt the decision will come down to Kim's ability to start. Mantei will fall apart by May and some wise team is going to have an extra closer. With a proper trade, you can use one of your closers to fill the hole created 'cus you drafted Griffey.
