The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Rich Hill is now the Cubs' fifth starter, and that the team will skip the spot as off days allow.
Jason Marquis has been bumped up in the rotation, and will start Friday against the Pirates. Hill will start Saturday, and appears to be on a short leash. "We've got [Sean] Marshall and [Jon] Lieber that deserve an opportunity also. I'm not talking about now. I'm talking down the road a little bit," Piniella said.
Not really great news, and it will be really hard for Hill to get on track with sporadic starts. I had great hopes for this guy, and was projecting some real solid numbers. If he gets bombed his next start, he might not be worth owning in a standard 12 teamer.
...Boston papers now and then suffer a sharp flurry of arithmetic on this score; indeed, for Williams to have distributed all his hits so they did nobody else any good would constitute a feat of placement unparalleled in the annals of selfishness. -Updike
