CHICAGO -- Tigers first baseman Carlos Guillen was out of Saturday's lineup and is listed as day-to-day with a mild strain of his right hamstring.
Guillen suffered the injury in the ninth inning of Friday's 5-2 win, when he was running out a ground ball. He said he felt a little pull as he sped into first base to avoid a double play.
"It's pretty tight and sore," Guillen said Saturday morning.
Guillen was out of the starting lineup for the first time this season. He's had one of the more productive bats for a Tigers offense that struggled for the first week or so before producing 18 runs over the last three games.
Guillen scored three times in Wednesday's 7-2 win at Boston, including once on a solo homer, and he added a run in Friday's victory. He's batting .314 (11-for-35) with four doubles, two home runs, nine walks, eight runs scored and two RBIs.
To take Guillen's place, Detroit manager Jim Leyland moved starting third baseman Miguel Cabrera to first base and center fielder Brandon Inge to third while inserting hot-hitting rookie Clete Thomas in center.
The Cabrera shift, Leyland emphasized, was a preventative move to avoid worsening his sore left quadriceps.
... first baseman Carlos Guillen said he would likely miss several games with a mild strain in his right hamstring.
He injured the leg while running to first on a ground ball in the ninth inning Friday.
“It’s pretty tight, pretty sore,” he said Saturday.
When asked if he heard a pop when he injured the leg, Guillen said, “A little bit.”
Still, club president/general manager Dave Dombrowski said he doesn’t think Guillen’s injury is serious enough that he will need to be placed on the disabled list. “Not at this point, no,” Dombrowski said.
Advanced warning for fellow MCab and Guillen owners: Detroit plays on the turf in Toronto against the Jays at the end of the coming week. Friday thru Monday, April 18-21.

Agreed.
"If a woman has to choose between catching a fly ball and saving an infant's life, she will choose to save the infant's life without even considering if there is a man on base." - Dave Berry
They're saying he may not have to go on the DL. If he was playing SS still i have a feeling he would, but at 1B you can play with a tight hammy. He just wont be stealing any bases for a while.
