Picking last in a 16-team league

Postby Danimal » Mon Feb 23, 2004 12:49 pm

It's a H2H mixed league with the following stats W, L, SHO, SV, K, ERA, WHIP, K/BB and R, H, HR, RBI, SB, E, AVG, OPS'

I pick 16th and it snakes, so I have the fortune of grabbing the 17th overall.

Any thoughts on strategy?

Just some first impressions:

Given that format, I might agonize about Gagne for a bit, but probably wind up looking for two bats unless one of the top pitchers slips considerably. Hard to predict what will happen in the draft, though. High-average hitters will certainly be at a premium, and I'd also try to gain an edge in the errors category, something that some drafters won't worry about. A DH or two could be a large plus.

if someone slips, grab 'em, but if not consider filling out two positions and draft like (tejada and chaves) or (rentareia and rolen.) Or just grab the two highest ranked people left.

I agree with Arlo's thought on Gange...that could be an intriguing pick with those Cats....but I think I would end up going with a power hitter...and a ace SP...but don't pass some one if they have fallen to far.... :-)

Ya I agree. If there is still a top notch pitcher left go with him, if not go with 2 bats.

I would take the best 2 hitters regardless of posistion.

There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.

I ended up getting Sheffield (!) and Schmidt. I was pleased.
