I dunno, I remember hearing much the same thing about James Shields last year, and he turned in a brilliant season.

anyone have any predictions for him...... I would assume average K-rate 3.50-3.80 Era and low whip. Anyone agree disagree? I'd take this with a grain of salt since I'm just assuming.

I love owings on my deep NL only league. But anyone nervous as I am when they use him in non traditional ways?

Today's Diamondbacks/Padres game. Bottom of the seventh. Padres 6, Dbacks 3, runners at 2nd and 3rd and no one out. Owings pinch hits, and strikes out.

I know he is a great hitter, but it doesn't help me fantasy wise when they have him hitting!!

His stuff actually looks better than I remember it being last year, he's 90-94 mph on his fastball and also is mixing his changeup well. His slider isn't a great pitch, it seems to have mediocre movement, but it's been working thus far.

I think he has the stuff to maintain a sub-4.00 ERA the whole year. Look at his stats in the last 2 months of last season. He had a sub-1.00 WHIP and an ERA around 3.00 in both. Not saying he gets that good, but he'll be solid. The one concern I will mention is that he's a flyball pitcher pitching in a hitters' ballpark in Arizona, and he will give up homers as a consequence.
