A very interesting, and probably appropriate comp for Owings' ceiling. Both have the same grit/gamer mentality. Owings' will probably put up solid numbers this year, but nothing special which is why Vol, Cueto, Parra etc. are more valuable based solely on "stuff and upside".

The D-Backs are a dynasty waiting to happen though. C B Young, J Upton, Conor Jackson, Mark Reynolds, Stephen Drew, Brandon Webb, Dan Haren, Tony Pena, then add vets like O-Dog and Eric Byrnes...

I haven't been this excited about the start of baseball season in a while. Hopefully some of my friends from college and I can get together and go to a game sometime this month, preferably with B-Webb or Haren starting.
Has anyone seen him pitch this year? Is his stuff better? Its hard to tell if he's turned the corner because the lineups he's faced havent been great. It doesn't seem like he should put up a good K/9 but he could be pretty solid in Wins (12-14?), ERA (3.60?), WHIP (1.20?)

Yeah look at his stats in August and September, he posted a sub-1.00 WHIP in both of them. He was a guy who really looked like he was figuring out how to pitch. People are never going to love him b/c he throws a mediocre fastball (87-89) but it has good sinking movement and he gets a decent amount of K's (I think he'll finish the season w/ a 7 k/9 ip rate).

I had Owings on my farm system in my dynasty league and kept tabs on him, believing he'd be a sleeper with as decent a 2nd half as you pointed out. Supposedly, Owings added another offspeed pitch in his arsenal and has altered his delivery a bit from what I've heard.
