Royals sign Swindell

Surprise, AZ (Sports Network) - The Kansas City Royals Sunday signed veteran pitcher Greg Swindell to a minor league contract.

The 39-year-old is a 16-year veteran with the Indians, Reds, Astros, Twins, Red Sox and Diamondbacks. In 664 games, including 269 starts, Swindell is 113-122 with a 3.86 ERA.

Swindell has not pitched in the majors since the 2002 campaign when he was 0-2 with a 6.27 ERA in 34 appearances for Arizona. The Diamondbacks released Swindell on April 3, 2003.
