Should this trade have been vetoed? Jones-Roberts WHIR

This trade was proposed and agreed to between two teams the day before the season started (i.e. March 29).

I was trading away Todd Jones to a team in dire need of closers (his only legit closer was Bobby Jenks, plus he had a ton of speed - Byrnes, Taveras, Hunter, Renteria, Braun)
I was receiving Brian Roberts (I needed speed help with Curtis Granderson on the DL, plus I had K-Rod, Trevor Hoffman, and Joakim Soria)

The team trading away Brian Roberts had Dustin Pedroia rotting away on his bench, so he was looking to move Roberts.

The deal was unfortunately vetoed. I personally do not agree - what are your thoughts? WHIR

Just on value alone, its pretty awful...

Roberts is about a top 50 player, Jones isn't even a top 200.

Roberts is a top 3 2nd base, todd jones is the low-end of low for relief pitchers.

Jones is in an obvious decline(39), Roberts is still close to his prime(30)

I am not 100% sure if I would veto(although probably), but its a REALLY bad trade considering you would have to use a 4-5th round pick for roberts, and you could get Jones 15+. Jones is literally the worst or tied for worst "ownable" relief pitcher in a standard fantasy league.

I would say at least a middle tier closer would be a bit more appropriate for what many believe to be a top 3 second basemen.

While Need is a concern, you don't address need by dumping a 4-5th round player for a 15th round player. All your doing there is hurting yourself at 2 positions instead of just 1.

I'm not a big fan of vetoes in general, but that trade was lopsided enough that I would have vetoed it. The guy trading Roberts could have gotten pretty much any closer outside of (and maybe including) K-Rod, Papelbon, Putz, and Nathan for Roberts straight up.
