Brad Lidge out?

Tom Gordon closed today's game... any reason why?

I'm guessing it's because he threw two days in a row... that's going to get annoying. I guess 44 pitches in two days is too much.

The Phillies are going to take it easy on Lidge. They don't want to stress the knee surgery this early in the season. So they gave him the day off.

No biggie, I would just expect him to be rested a bit if alot of consecutive save situations pop up for the Phillies.

Come on now. That's a blatant ripoof of Buzz from Home Alone. And a poorly done one at that. There's a lot of stuff growing on my ass. Obviously, none of it is draftworthy.

Lidge was never growing on my ass but I grabbed him late in my draft. The Phils will go easy with him early on (as they did today) but he's been throwing at nearly full strength and already has a save in the 2 or 3 days he's been off the DL. I'm expecting a nice profit on him.

It's not like he's been sitting on a couch for 6 weeks. He pitched a couple of times last week in tuneups, and came up ready to pitch on Saturday---didn't have to. But, he pitched Sunday and then again on Monday. Could he have gone today? Sure if they really, really needed him---but Why? A 3 run lead against a crippled team like the NY Mets---it's almost not even a Save situation. Play the percentages and save him for tomorrow, when it might be a 1 run lead or something.
