I'll agree that the article isn't as good as the premise, but there were definitely gems. The part about what he'd do with the change, that - to date - he'd asked everyone in America for change, and the final sentence ("He needs a job") were all pretty darn good. Besides, the premise alone is, contrary to prior posts, very clever.
I personally love the onion. The headline I thought was pretty funny, the story was not. A lot of their stories have a great premise or headline, but don't really deliver when it comes to the actual copy. The sports section is pretty funny. The same issue had "Packers Tell Fans They Gave Favre to a Nice Farm Family." Which I thought was great, as I think every kid had a pet who went to the "nice farm family." I also look forward to the man on the street, infographic, and JIm Anchower columns. However, they have taken on a death/suicide bent to their jokes which aren't funny. I think the Onion is best consumed as a "skim" until you get to AV Club.
