What should I expect out of Ellsbury now that is loosing serious time to Coco? I am in a ten team league and was hoping he would be a good source of avg, runs, and SBs, but thus far is looks droppable in all formats. What do you think???
I think his platooning is temporary. The Sox are showcasing Coco so they can ship him out of there.
If you have a deep bench, it might be worth stashing Ellsbury there and seeing what happens. Otherwise, he's droppable, but watch the situation and be ready to grab him again once Crisp is traded.

In a 10 team league, he should be dropped... not so much because he won't turn it around, just because there is almost certainly someone better out there on your waiver wire. If McLouth is out there, for instance, you should have dropped Ellsbury for him 4 days ago.
He will be starting everyday at some point soon, but the red sox need to keep Coco happy enough where he doesn't become a distraction. They also need to maintain his value, so someone will trade for him. How deep is your bench. You probably can afford to wait out this situation.

It also depends on how much you are willing to monitor his playing time. Last year I drafted Pedroia and although he played well, I ended up dropping him because he was just too high maintenance a player to follow. BJ Upton quickly earned 2B eligibility and I certainly never regretted it. I have a feeling owning Ellsbury will be a lot like owning Pedroia was last year.

He is signed through 2009 (for $5.75 million). The deal contains an $8 million team option for 2010 with a $500,000 buyout and contains salary escalator provisions.

This platooning is awful, I need his steals on one of my teams desperately and his full time play has allowed me to catch up to the pack. Crisp has played well but hopefully Ellsbury can stick because how much return will Coco get anyway?
