H2H points league Pitcher start question

Postby cwrtlm » Tue Apr 08, 2008 7:35 am

We play in a H2H CBS Weekly points league. By defaut they have no maximum for starts in a week, in most other leagues I have been in they have a max. We start 7 pitchers so you could theoritcally have 14 starts per week. There are no penalties for losses. You get points for innings pitched as well. So obviously you want to get as many starts per week as possible. Next year are thinking to creating a custom league with a max. starts per week and a -5 penalty per loss. Is this legitimate or should we keep it like it is?

Adding a max starts is good idea imo. This will ensure quality over quantity.

I however do not like -5 for losses, I don't like the addition of yet another category that is only sort of controlled by the pitcher himself.

I'm a LM of a Points League, and I originally had the -5 for losses.

After a unanimous League decision, it was removed. It's a totally ludacris thing to lose points for. On either extreme, it looks dumb.

Pitcher A has 7 IP, 1 ER, his team loses 1-0
Pitcher B has 2 IP, 7 ER, his team loses 7-0

Both get the loss in their respective games. It just penalizes pitchers who didnt get run support.

My league has each team with 5 SP, so the Maximum is 10. I recommend utilizing one. It may not be a factor now, but as the playofs come, it could prove to be.

I would put in a Maximum, but do not include the loss. What I'm considering doing is removing Wins and adding Quality Starts instead.

We have -2 for a loss in our CBS league. Same for a blown save. It counterbalances the 10 points for the win. I hate wins as a stat too, but I can't convince my league to go to QS. Oh well.
