Vlad or Beltran

Postby Guest » Sun Feb 22, 2004 8:46 pm

I'm in a 5x5 keeper league and it looks like with the #5 pick I'll have my choice of Vlad or Beltran. I'm sold on Vlad but I wanted to get some of your thoughts. I think Vlad will take Beltran in every category but stolen bases, which I think Vlad's best sb years are behind him. My main concern is using my first round pick on a player with a back problem, as Beltran doesn't have any injury history.

I'd take Vlad. I agree that he will out preform Beltran in every category other than SB's which makes him more valuable. he may be a bit of a injury risk but after he came back from his injury last year he proved he could still hit the ball.

Its really a toss up... I'd personally go with Beltran, since no history of injury and he could explode this year. What happens if vlads back gives out? Beltran isnt showing any signs of problems.

Take Beltran, he'll be traded to the Yankees just in time for your leagues playoffs.

You must forget that Beltran got hurt last year, missing 21 games at the beginning of the season.

To answer the question though, I'd take Vlad for the better AVG/HR/RBI numbers over Beltran's steals.

That's a tough call. Right now I'd say Beltran. Vlad might take a while to adjust to the new league and Juan G makes another bat to deal with in the Royals lineup, helping Beltran.

I am very suprised that there are people who are saying Beltran. I personally think Vlad will have 10 or so more Hr's, have an avg about 10 to 15 more points higher it will be close in the Rbi's and Beltran will score more runs. Now the kicker is vlads 10 or so steals and Beltran around 50 IMO. I would give the edge to Bletran even if he dosen't hit 50 steals he still should have over 40. He missed 21 games last year and still had 41.

There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.

Would you change your mind if I told you that it was a head to head league? I'd rather essentially give up Beltran's sb's in favor of the other categories favoring Vlad.
