Fool for taking Bret Boone and Tejada/Jeter at the turn?

Have the last pick in a 12 man league. Not super happy about it but what are you going to do. Anyways, it's a points based scoring not roto. Pretty standard except power is at a premium, 5 pts for homeruns and -.5 for strikeouts. I've projected the top players at each position and Bret Boone isn't far behind Soriano at second. Thinking about taking Boone and the best available SS at the turn assuming nobody drops into my lap. The top shortstops won't last until my next set of picks. I'm having a hard time taking Boone this high but the numbers don't lie and I like the idea of a strong middle infield. Thoughts? My projected numbers on Boone are .290 32 100-110 15.

I am trying this exact strategy in a mock draft now...I am kinda interested to see how it comes out.... :-?

Tejada absolutely worth a #12 pick. Jeter no. Boone... bit of a reach. I'm betting someone will be there you'd rather have. But not a terrible idea.

I would go with Boone but probably not Tejada. I would look at maybe Thome, Manny or Mags if they were still available.

There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.

You gotta do what you gotta do. There will be 22 picks made before you make your 3rd pick.

I'm projecting Boone with a few less HR, maybe around the 25-30 range and more RBI, 115-120. My reasoning is that with the all around speed and lineup improvement the Mariners added he will have more opportunities with runners on base and be able to knock in runs off doubles.

My projections being slightly off arent of much relevance though, seems like you have a sound strategy.
