12 more months.
I would think Trevor Time has a massive leash.
Bell has to prove he's not a one-season wonder.
I think the rest of the bullpen (Thatcher, Meredith and Bell) has to be showing good form before anything drastic happens.

Ender wrote:If Hoffman pitched in any other park I'd be a lot more worried, this guy has seen major slippage in his peripherals but the park has bailed him out in the stats people look at. Still if he has a couple more bad outings it wouldn't surprise me to see elbow pain and DL in his future.

Is that elbow pain or "elbow pain".

I have Heath Bell to back up Trevor so things are good for me.
But I do not see Trevor degressing much.
He has always been solid and it is on April 6th, but I will wait to see how much he has left in the tank.

It seems MO still has a lot left in the tank but can Hoff keep up with him?

Dont Hassle the Hoff.

ok first off, Trevor has the longest leash of any closer in baseball. I as a padre fan dont feel safe with him in the game right now, but I also know at some point this year he will run off 20+ saves in a row.

to the people who are saying his pitch speed is down have no clue what they are talking about, I would actually say that because his velocity is up he is relying on his fastball more now then anytime in the last 3 yrs. His arm is fresh and his fastball has topped 90 for the first time since early 2006. He has topped out at 92 this season and his changeup still coming in at 75. His command is what is off, and once he gets that back on track he will be just fine.

he will finish the year with 38 saves and a 3.10 era thats my prediction, then I hope he retires at the end of this season

Odds are still FAVORABLE his junk stays in the park (50.3%). And for those 49.7% aberrant events..here's an auto-peel and paste post.."Everybody sucks sometimes"

I am on the boat that sees a sizable regression this year, but he's got one of the longest leashes in the game, so he'll be there in the 9th, sucking or otherwise. The most you'll see regardless, as long as he's not on the DL, would be maybe Bell getting a stray Save Op here and there. Hoffman will see 95%+ of the Save Ops no matter what, in Sahn Diahgo.

Hoffman won't have his closer job swept from under him no matter how badly he pitches. I mean, if Tony Gwynn has a statue at every exit of Petco Park, then so will Trevor Hoffman when he retires, dangit.

Rivera has the longest leash.

That leash will shorten if he blows consecutive saves and becomes a liability.

I don't think you need to worry too much about Hoffman though. He is smart so he will figure it out.

If San Diego is in contention and he keeps blowing games they have no choice but to turn to Bell no matter how much of a legend he is.

Last April Rivera blew a couple games as well. While I do think Hoffman is regressing, he will not get taken out of the closer role.

Last season, Mariano had a 10+ ERA in April, Hoffman's ERA was 6.23 in April.

Barring injuries/one of his arm falling off, I think its Hoffman's job.

It's only April
