10 TEAM H2H, HIGHLY COMPETETIVE KEEPER ---- WHIR WHIR WHIR

This is a competitive keeper league I've been involved in the past 3 years. I won it the first year, and finished seventh the second.

R, HR, RBI, SB, AVG, OPS, W, SV, K, ERA, WHIP, K/9

Here is my roster, the bold are keepers.

C JR Towles
1B David Ortiz
2B Brandon Phillips
3B Ryan Braun

SS Derek Jeter
OF Torii Hunter
OF Vernon Wells
OF Kosuke Fukudome
UTIL Jermaine Dye
UTIL Hideki Matsui
BN Ty Wiggington
BN Orlando Cabrera

SP Erik Bedard
SP Brandon Webb
SP Brad Penny
SP Derek Lowe
RP Joe Nathan
RP José Valverde
P Johnny Cueto
P Matt Garza
P Shawn Marcum
BN Barry Zito
BN Tom Gorzelanny
BN Bobby Jenks

I'm thinking of dropping Garza for one of these FA's

Johnny Damon, Taveras, Thomas, Kent, Heath Bell, Brian Bannister, Mark Buehrle, Garko, Glaus, S. Drew, AJ Piersinsky, Cust, Aaron Hill

EDIT: I realized Theriot was available, and dropped Garza for him.

I have NO speed to speak of, but should I even bother trying to win the SB category? Would it be a fair strategy to forgo that one stat and try to pad some other ones for a sure victory?

WHIR ALWAYS

I don't think it is necessarily a bad idea to give up on the stolen base category. Sometimes I find myself worrying too much about speed and I end up losing 95% of the categories that have more to do with straight up hitting. If you wanted to add a little speed though, you could maybe look at moving a guy like Dye that is having a very productive first part of the year in a deal for a guy that you know has some speed or even consider dropping Matsui to pick up a player that is unproven at the plate with huge speed upside. It looks like your pitching is in good shape and I really like the fact that you have Fukudome. Overall looks pretty darn good to this observer. Good luck.

punting stats in Roto is a bad idea, however, punting stls in h2h hurts you a lot less IMO.

btw...why didn't u drop Zito instead of Garza? thats what i woulda done

I think you would have to had drafted differently to keep up in the SB category. That being said though, the rest of your team is pretty damn solid, particularly in the avg and power departments. Great keepers too...lucked out there :D

My advice is to move Cabrera or Jeter. The position is too shallow to have a starting fantasy SS like Cabrera sitting locked on the bench behind Jeter.

Other than that, I'd stand pat right now. You have some solid pitchers at the top, but you have lots of risk/reward guys. Odds are not all of them will pan out, so I'd keep as much pitching depth as possible until you know.

Thanks for the help on mine.

Thanks for you help.

Don't play H2H but punting SB is easier than in roto. You have decent speed in BPhillips, Braun, Hunter, Wells, Jeter,

You could move Fukodome since his value is high or another OF. I'd look to move one of your OF for another IF just for roster flexibility and for depth purposes. Once get Braun gets OF spot you'll have another OF. What positions do Theriot and Wigginton have in your league? You could trade OCab since you're punting SB or just use him at UTIL. If you're good in AVG then maybe add 3B Glaus (health permitting, he could be good). Big Hurt could help also. Ideally move 2 OF and get back IF bc you'll have Braun for OF.

Like your pitching except Penny and Zito. 1st half guy and 2nd half guy, respectively, no? Maybe include each one with an OF and get a hitter and SP?

thanks for help.
i dont think your team is all that bad in steals.
also i'd rather have several of those FA than zito, especially damon or bannister

I wouldn't punt SB quite yet.... IMO SB are easier to get off of the WW than power and RBIs...

S. Drew isn't too bad of an option for you either, depending on what you want to do with Jeter. I like TheRiot also though.

Good Luck! Im not good with keepers, but I'll always give a second opinion ;-D

Thanks for the advice guys. I dropped Zito for Bannister, and am currently trying to acquire Carl Crawford.

1.You should deal Orlando Hudson to somebody like Hideki Matsui. You could get a hitter for your utility spot that will give you a whole lot more performance than Matsui from somebody with a handicap at shortstop.
2. Fukudome is amazing and you got a steal with that guy.
3. I picked up Gorzelanny off the waiver wire last season and he puts up pretty consistant numbers in every category but wins. (not his fault) Don't let his first shelling of the season scare you into getting rid of him.
4. I would've told you to get rid of Zito, but you did that and you will be much happier with the quality of starts you get out of Bannister. You might see what else is available and look to upgrade Garza with a pitcher that might have some great upside.
